Thank you to all our valued patients who have been waiting for our hygienists to return to work.
Since opening again on the 9th June we have worked as a small team to treat the emergencies accumulated during the lockdown , and also placing into action a set of operational procedures so we can provide a safe environment. These procedures have been continually revised and refined to allow us to now introduce routine treatments and the long-awaited hygienist service.
Initially, we would like to slowly and carefully bring this service back to ensure all the necessary precautions are taken and our standard of care is maintained. At the moment we only have limited availability, please do bear with us while we work on expanding our services, as safety is our priority.
Please contact our practice if you would like to make a routine appointment, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Further Detail:
During a hygienist treatment two different types of instruments are used;
1) Hand scaling instruments are used, this is classed as a Non Aerosol Generating Procedure (otherwise known as non-AGP). A Non AGP hygienist treatment also includes a light polish on the front teeth only.
2) Ultrasonic instruments are used, this is classed as an Aerosol Generating Procedure (otherwise known as an AGP). An AGP treatment includes a polish of all teeth.
All patients will be notified on booking an appointment if the procedure is an AGP, as this will incur the additional charge of £40 to cover extra costs of protective equipment and surgery time.
Our hygienists are busy screening patient records from their last hygienist appointment to decide upon the appointment type required (non AGP or AGP).
With the new procedures in place and the limitations of treatment, we would like to reassure our patients that we will do our best to achieve the best outcome possible with hand scaling alone if it is deemed that is all that is required.
As ever, excellent oral hygiene will help reduce your need for multiple or AGP hygienist appointments. Using a toothbrush for 2 minutes twice a day, of course, we favour electric toothbrushing and daily interdental cleaning aids will benefit you the most.
It’s so lovely every year when we come in for treatment to see that we left our practice in the safe guiding hands of Seetal and her wonderful team (many of whom we were lucky enough to work with meaning Emma, Mel and Sarah) when we retired 11 years ago.
It’s always great for us to see all the latest equipment and updates that have been done in the practice , and see that the professional standards have been maintained, along with the kind and caring manner which we always find there. Well done to all at Oakthorpe Dental
